White House, Democrats negotiating on ICE as lawmakers hold hearings
Democratic leaders say a counteroffer on immigration enforcement from the White House on Monday is “insufficient,” Roll Call reports.
Funding for the Department of Homeland Security will lapse on Saturday if a deal isn’t reached by then.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, top officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Customs and Border Protection and Citizenship and Immigration Services are to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee, says The New York Times.

The Senate Homeland Security Committee holds its own hearing on Thursday.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is to testify before the House and Senate Judiciary committees the first week of March.
For months, Democratic lawmakers had been seeking such oversight hearings on the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement, but Republican lawmakers largely deferred to the president, notes a separate Roll Call article.
That started to change after the public outcry over the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
