Democrats' big wins in elections across America
The headline of The Wall Street Journal’s conservative editorial board reads, “Democrats start their comeback.”
A New York Times analysis is headlined, “The Democrats just took a big step toward getting their groove back.”
Politico headlines, “Democrats didn’t just rebound. They dominated.”
The WSJ editorial board says: “President Trump rolled to victory in 2024 promising to reduce inflation and make middle-class life more affordable. The warning to Republicans in Tuesday’s election results is that Democrats are turning the tables on affordability, especially when they steer clear of leftist cultural snares.”
Politico says: “Counties that had shifted right a year ago veered back to the left, and the suburbs that powered Democrats’ massive wins in the first Trump administration came roaring back. Exit polls even showed Democrats improved their margins with non-college educated voters.”
The Associated Press says that though the candidates and local issues all played a role in the results, voter attitudes about Trump and his agenda were central to their choices and offered the first clear review from voters of Trump’s agenda just nine months after he returned to power.
Historian Heather Cox Richardson cites Trump’s post on social media: “‘TRUMP WASN’T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,’ according to Pollsters.”
“But in fact,” Richardson says, “today voters resoundingly rejected Trump and Trumpism, and tomorrow, politics will be a whole different game.”
